About This Trail
Yonah Mountain Trail is a strenuous North Georgia hike near Cleveland that climbs steadily through forest to open summit-area views. The route is popular because it delivers a big mountain feel in a relatively compact distance, but the climb, rocky footing, and exposed upper sections make it more demanding than many short hikes. It is best treated as a serious mountain outing rather than a casual walk.
The trail rewards prepared hikers with broad views and a memorable summit setting, especially on clear days. Along the way, expect natural-surface tread, roots, rocks, steep grades, and changing weather. The exposed rock areas near the top are scenic but require extra caution, particularly around cliffs, wet rock, wind, or crowded conditions.
Start early, bring plenty of water, wear sturdy footwear, and stay well back from cliff edges and steep drop-offs. This trail can be hot in summer and slick after rain, so check conditions before going and turn around if weather or footing becomes unsafe.

Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
