About This Trail
Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge Pond 21 Trails give visitors two easy hiking loops inside one of Middle Georgia’s most important wildlife refuge landscapes. The Dragonfly Trail and Little Rock Hiking Trail are located near Pond 21 along Little Rock Wildlife Drive, offering opportunities to see native grass fields, wetland edges, open water, birds, and seasonal wildlife activity.
These trails are a strong fit for birdwatchers, photographers, families, and visitors who want a gentle hike with a wildlife focus. The setting is different from a state park trail: access, seasonal closures, hunting dates, refuge rules, and wildlife management priorities all shape the experience. The trails work well as part of a larger Piedmont NWR visit that includes the visitor center, wildlife drive, and observation areas.
Before visiting, check U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service notices, refuge hours, seasonal closures, and hunting dates. Bring water, insect protection, and binoculars, and stay on open trails to avoid disturbing wildlife habitat.
Trail Notes
Piedmont NWR Pond 21 trails are wildlife-focused refuge loops with seasonal access considerations. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
