About This Trail

Panther Creek Trail is a popular Chattahoochee National Forest waterfall hike leading toward Panther Creek Falls through a rugged creek corridor. The trail has long been known for forest scenery, water features, and a rewarding waterfall destination, but it is also more demanding than many casual waterfall hikes because of distance, terrain, and changing trail conditions.

Visitors should treat this as a serious natural-surface outing. Depending on current conditions, hikers may encounter roots, rocks, narrow sections, washouts, creekside footing, and limited cell service. The route can be especially challenging after storms or when the Forest Service has posted warnings or closures. It is best suited for prepared hikers who can handle intermediate to advanced trail conditions.

Before visiting, check the latest Forest Service notices and do not rely only on old route descriptions. Bring water, navigation, sturdy footwear, and a backup plan, and avoid the trail if conditions are unsafe or if sections are closed.

Trail Notes

Panther Creek Trail is a rugged waterfall hike where washouts, creekside terrain, and changing trail conditions can make the route more difficult than expected. Check current Forest Service notices before going, avoid the trail during unsafe conditions, and be prepared for rough footing and limited cell service.

Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.

Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
