About This Trail
Lake Russell WMA Trails offer a Habersham County trail network with maintained mountain bike routes, gravel-road riding, forest scenery, and access to the Lake Russell Recreation Area landscape. The area gives riders and hikers a quieter Northeast Georgia option with natural-surface routes, rolling terrain, and a wildlife management area setting.
Because this is a WMA environment, visitors should plan differently than they would for a typical city park or state park trail. Seasonal hunting activity, gravel roads, remote-feeling sections, and variable trail conditions can all affect the experience. Mountain bikers will find a mix of maintained routes and forest riding, while hikers can use the area for a more low-key woods outing.
Before visiting, check WMA rules, seasonal hunting dates, trail conditions, and weather. Bring water, navigation, and appropriate gear, wear bright colors when appropriate, and avoid soft or damaged trails after heavy rain.
Trail Notes
Lake Russell WMA Trails are shared natural-surface routes used for mountain biking, hiking, and outdoor recreation in a wildlife management area setting. Check seasonal WMA notices, hunting dates, and trail conditions before visiting, and wear bright colors when appropriate.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
