About This Trail
Hitchiti Trail is a Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest hiking route in the Hitchiti Experimental Forest near Juliette. The trail follows Falling Creek and the Ocmulgee River corridor, giving hikers a quiet Middle Georgia forest and river outing with a more natural feel than many paved greenways.
The route is a good fit for hikers who want a forest walk with creek and river scenery, but it requires more preparation than a short park loop. Visitors should expect natural-surface footing, possible muddy sections, seasonal vegetation, and limited services. A shorter marked loop exists for those who do not want to continue all the way toward the river.
Before visiting, check Forest Service information, road access, weather, and current trail conditions. Bring water, navigation, insect protection, and sturdy shoes, and avoid low or wet areas if conditions are unsafe.
Trail Notes
Hitchiti Trail is a forest and river route with natural-surface conditions and limited services. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, ranger office, refuge office, or land manager for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
