About This Trail
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Trail System represents a collection of river corridor trails across multiple park units in metro Atlanta. Rather than a single trailhead, the system includes many access points with different terrain, distances, parking areas, river views, forested sections, rocky shoals, and neighborhood connections along the Chattahoochee River.
This system is useful for visitors who want outdoor time close to Atlanta without leaving the metro area. Depending on the unit, hikers may find easy riverside paths, more rugged forest routes, bluff views, bamboo groves, historic sites, or quiet stretches near the water. Because each unit is different, choosing the right access point matters more than simply searching for the system name.
Before visiting, check National Park Service information for parking, fees or passes, unit-specific rules, river conditions, and temporary closures. Use caution near water, slick rocks, steep banks, and fast-changing river conditions, especially after rain or dam releases.
Trail Notes
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area includes many separate trail units, each with its own parking, terrain, river access, and rules. Choose the specific unit before you go, and be extra careful near riverbanks, slick rocks, and fast-changing water conditions.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
