About This Trail
Cannon’s Point Preserve Trails offer a protected St. Simons Island nature experience with maritime forest, salt marsh, tidal creek scenery, shell middens, and historic plantation-era ruins. The preserve gives visitors a quieter, more natural complement to the island’s paved bike paths and beach areas.
The trail system is especially valuable for hikers, birdwatchers, photographers, and visitors interested in conservation and coastal history. Routes can be combined into longer walks through shaded forest and marsh-edge environments, but access is limited by preserve hours and management rules. The setting is sensitive, so staying on marked trails is essential.
Before visiting, check current open days, hours, parking, trail maps, and preserve rules. Bring water and insect protection, stay on designated routes, and respect archaeological, ecological, and historic resources throughout the preserve.
Trail Notes
Cannon's Point Preserve has limited access days and sensitive ecological, archaeological, and historic resources. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, refuge office, visitor center, or land manager for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, wildlife activity, and restrictions before you go.
