About This Trail
Brasstown Bald Trail is a short but steep paved summit walk leading from the visitor parking area toward Georgia’s highest point. Although the mileage is brief, the climb is strenuous enough to surprise many visitors, with a steady grade that gains elevation quickly. The reward is one of the best mountain-view experiences in the state, with broad visibility across the North Georgia high country on clear days.
This trail is a good fit for visitors who want a compact but memorable mountain outing rather than a long backcountry hike. The paved surface makes the route straightforward to follow, but the steep grade, changing weather, and cooler summit temperatures still require preparation. Many visitors combine the trail with time at the observation area, interpretive exhibits, and scenic overlooks around the summit.
Before visiting, check seasonal access, visitor center hours, shuttle availability, weather, and any posted closures. Bring a layer even when lower elevations are warm, and use caution descending the steep paved path, especially when wet or crowded.
Trail Notes
Brasstown Bald Trail is short and paved, but it climbs steeply from the parking area to Georgia's highest summit. Pace yourself on the ascent, bring a layer for cooler summit conditions, and use caution on the descent, especially if the pavement is wet or crowded.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
