About This Trail

Amerson River Park Trails offer one of Macon’s best outdoor trail experiences, with routes through a large riverbend landscape of forests, meadows, wetlands, bluffs, and Ocmulgee River access. The park gives walkers, runners, cyclists, families, and nature lovers a flexible trail setting close to the city.

The trail system can support a short walk, a family outing, a run, or a longer exploration of the park’s river corridor. High bluffs, open meadows, canoe launches, picnic areas, and river views make the park a strong complement to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and other Macon outdoor destinations. Because the river is a major feature, visitors should plan with water safety in mind.

Before visiting, check park hours, trail conditions, weather, and river advisories. Stay on marked trails, keep clear of unsafe river conditions, and use extra care near banks, current, and river access points.

Trail Notes

Amerson River Park includes river-adjacent trails where water safety and current conditions matter. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.

Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, ranger office, refuge office, or land manager for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
