About This Trail
Pine Mountain Trail is the signature long-distance hiking route associated with F.D. Roosevelt State Park and the Pine Mountain ridge system. The trail offers a more substantial hiking experience than short park loops, with hardwood forest, creeks, ridges, rocky sections, rolling climbs, and enough mileage to support day hikes, section hikes, and longer backpacking-style outings.
Because the trail is much longer than most state park walks, visitors should plan carefully and choose a segment that matches available time and ability. Conditions can vary by section, season, and weather. Hikers may encounter remote-feeling stretches, limited water access, uneven footing, and navigation decisions that require more preparation than casual trail users may expect.
Before visiting, review current maps, trail status, parking access, and any park advisories. Carry water, navigation, snacks, and appropriate footwear, and leave a trip plan with someone if attempting a longer section.
Trail Notes
Pine Mountain Trail is a longer, more rugged hiking route through F.D. Roosevelt State Park and the surrounding Pine Mountain terrain. Plan mileage carefully, carry water and navigation, and be prepared for rolling climbs, rocky sections, and changing weather.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
