About This Trail

Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge Trails give visitors access to one of Georgia’s most important coastal wildlife viewing areas. The refuge includes hiking trails, ponds, maritime scrub, wetlands, and a wildlife drive known for birding, especially around Woody Pond and the refuge’s nesting wading birds.

The trail system is especially strong for birdwatchers, photographers, families, and travelers exploring the coastal counties between Savannah and Brunswick. Visitors can combine short trail walks with the wildlife drive, observation areas, and seasonal birding stops. Because this is a national wildlife refuge, the primary purpose is habitat protection, and visitor access may change with management needs.

Before visiting, check U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service information for current access, trail status, seasonal closures, and wildlife protection notices. Stay on open roads and trails, give birds and all wildlife plenty of space, and bring binoculars, water, and insect protection.

Trail Notes

Harris Neck is a national wildlife refuge where trails and wildlife drive access should be used with habitat protection in mind. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.

Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, refuge office, visitor center, or land manager for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, wildlife activity, and restrictions before you go.
