About This Trail
Oconee Rivers Greenway in Athens is a linear park system combining paved multi-use paths, natural-surface hiking trails, river views, wildlife corridors, and connections to parks and neighborhoods. It is one of the most useful trail systems in the Athens area for walking, running, biking, nature observation, and everyday outdoor access.
The system includes concrete multi-use trail segments as well as hiking-only natural trails, giving visitors several ways to experience the North Oconee River corridor. It can support a short walk from a park access point, a longer bike ride, or a nature-focused outing with river and wetland habitat. Because the trail links multiple public spaces, route choice and access point matter.
Before visiting, check Athens-Clarke County trail maps, hours, construction notices, and current conditions. Share paved paths with other users, stay on marked routes, and use caution near riverbanks, road crossings, and wetland areas.
Trail Notes
Oconee Rivers Greenway includes paved multi-use trails and natural-surface hiking trails along the Athens river corridor. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, ranger office, refuge office, or land manager for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
