About This Trail

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail is Middle Georgia’s major riverside trail system, following the Ocmulgee River corridor through Macon and connecting parks, neighborhoods, downtown destinations, and access toward Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. It is one of the region’s most useful urban outdoor assets for walking, running, biking, birdwatching, and riverfront recreation.

The trail gives visitors a way to experience Macon’s landscape at a slower pace, with access to parks, bridges, river views, and cultural destinations. Different segments offer different experiences, from urban greenway sections to quieter stretches near natural areas. The route can be used for short walks or longer bike rides, depending on the starting point and current trail connectivity.

Before visiting, check local trail maps, access points, and any construction or closure notices. Share the path with other users, use caution at crossings and bridge approaches, and bring water and sun protection for longer outings.

Trail Notes

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail is a Macon riverside greenway linking parks, downtown, neighborhoods, and cultural destinations. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.

Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
