About This Trail

Augusta Riverwalk is a downtown Savannah River walking route that gives visitors an easy way to experience Augusta’s riverfront, public spaces, event areas, and urban scenery. It is not a backcountry trail, but it is an important walking and trip-planning asset for visitors exploring the Augusta area.

The Riverwalk works well for a relaxed stroll, a short exercise walk, or a connection between downtown attractions and other riverfront destinations. It can also be combined with nearby canal and levee trails for a larger Augusta walking or biking day. Because it is an urban riverfront route, conditions and activity levels may change with events, weather, and time of day.

Before visiting, check downtown parking, event schedules, riverfront conditions, and any temporary closures. Stay aware around stairs, ramps, crowds, and river edges, and use normal urban safety awareness during early morning or evening visits.

Trail Notes

Augusta Riverwalk is an urban riverfront walking path, best treated as a city trail and trip-planning connector. Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.

Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
