About This Trail
Waterfalls Trail at Cloudland Canyon is a steep, stair-heavy route descending into one of Georgia’s most scenic canyon settings. The trail leads toward waterfall viewing areas for Cherokee Falls and Hemlock Falls, giving visitors a dramatic look at the park’s sandstone cliffs, forested gorge, and cascading water.
This is a strenuous outing despite its moderate mileage because the return climb requires many stairs and sustained effort. Visitors should plan extra time, carry water, and be realistic about fitness, heat, and group ability. The waterfalls are especially impressive after rainfall, but wet stairs, rocks, and platforms can also make footing more hazardous.
Before visiting, check current park hours, parking fees, trail conditions, and weather. Use handrails where available, stay on marked paths and viewing areas, and avoid climbing on slick rocks or entering unsafe water near the falls.
Trail Notes
The Waterfalls Trail at Cloudland Canyon is a strenuous stair-heavy route to waterfall viewing areas. Expect a demanding climb back out, carry water, and use extra caution on stairs, wet rocks, and crowded overlooks.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
