About This Trail
Jacks River Falls Trail is a remote Cohutta Wilderness hike leading toward one of North Georgia’s most iconic backcountry waterfall destinations. The route from the Dally Gap area is strenuous and demanding, with wilderness conditions, rugged terrain, and repeated river crossings that require preparation and good judgment.
This is not a casual waterfall stroll. Visitors should expect a long day, wet crossings, rocky and rooty footing, limited cell service, and route conditions that can become unsafe during high water. The reward is a wild and memorable waterfall setting, but the hike is best suited for experienced hikers or backpackers who understand wilderness travel.
Before visiting, check Forest Service information, weather, river levels, road access, and wilderness rules. Do not attempt crossings during high water, carry navigation and emergency essentials, and be prepared to turn around if conditions are unsafe.
Trail Notes
USFS describes Cohutta Wilderness access points and notes that the 37,000-acre wilderness contains 90 miles of hiking and backpacking trails, including trails following the Jacks and Conasauga Rivers. Store this record as a rugged Dally Gap/Jacks River Falls access hike rather than a casual waterfall walk.
