About This Trail
DeSoto Falls Trail is a scenic waterfall hike in the Chattahoochee National Forest near Dahlonega and Blairsville. The trail system gives visitors access to waterfall views, creekside scenery, and a shaded mountain-forest setting without requiring a long backcountry approach. It is a popular choice for families, waterfall seekers, and travelers exploring the north side of the Georgia mountains.
The route is generally approachable, but visitors should still expect natural-surface footing, wet areas, and grade changes along the way. The waterfall viewing areas are the highlight, especially after periods of good flow, but rocks and steps can become slick. Because the recreation area is well known, parking and trail traffic may increase on weekends, holidays, and during pleasant weather.
Before visiting, check current recreation area access, fees, weather, and any temporary closures. Wear shoes with traction, stay on marked trails, and use extra care around water, wet rocks, and viewing platforms.
Trail Notes
DeSoto Falls Trail is a North Georgia waterfall hike with forested walking, creek scenery, and access to waterfall viewing areas in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Use caution near water, rocks, and damp trail sections, and expect more visitors during warm weekends and peak waterfall conditions.
Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
