About This Trail
Amicalola Falls Loop Trail is one of Georgia’s classic mountain waterfall hikes, giving visitors close-up views of the 730-foot Amicalola Falls and a memorable climb through one of the state’s most popular outdoor destinations. The route is closely tied to Appalachian Trail culture because Amicalola Falls State Park is the gateway for many hikers starting the Appalachian Approach Trail toward Springer Mountain.
The loop is strenuous because of stairs, elevation gain, and the steady climb around the waterfall area. Visitors should expect crowds during good weather, especially on weekends, holidays, and peak leaf season. The payoff is a dramatic waterfall experience with several viewpoints, forested sections, and a strong sense of North Georgia mountain scenery.
Before visiting, check state park hours, parking fees, weather, and trail conditions. Wear supportive shoes, bring water, pace yourself on the stairs, and use caution near overlooks, wet surfaces, and crowded viewing areas.

Always leave no trace, pack out everything you pack in, and if you see trash, pick it up and pack it out.
Stay on the marked trail, tell someone where you're going, pack safety and wayfinding essentials, and do not rely only on a mobile phone to find your way. Practice good trail etiquette, yield appropriately on shared-use trails, and check the trailhead kiosk, official maps, park office, or ranger office for notices about changed routes, closures, safety information, fees, and restrictions before you go.
