These lake-specific notes highlight the recreation that is genuinely available here, along with the limits and practical details that shape a visit.
West Point Lake is a large boating destination with ramps in about 30 public recreation areas and two full-service marinas. Visitors can sail, windsurf, paddle, cruise, fish, or use powerboats, with fuel, rentals, repairs, storage, and supplies available at the marinas.
Fishing is the lake’s most prominent activity, with a dozen creeks, broad open water, public ramps, shoreline access, and accessible fishing piers at Hardley Creek, Rocky Point, and McGee Bridge. This is one of Georgia’s better large lakes for visitors who prefer to fish from shore.
Earl Cook, Rocky Point, and Yellowjacket provide public swimming beaches from early May through Labor Day. Each is a developed day-use destination, making them more suitable for swimming than unmarked shoreline.
Amity, Holiday, R. Shaefer Heard, and Whitetail Ridge provide Corps-managed camping with combinations of water and electric hookups, ramps, playgrounds, sports courts, showers, and other facilities. Their waterfront settings make them strong bases for boating and fishing trips.
West Point Lake’s day-use parks add picnic shelters, fishing piers, playgrounds, ball fields, courts, trails, and group recreation to the lake experience. Visitors can plan a full family outing without needing a boat.
12 published access points can help you choose where to launch, fish, picnic, swim, or begin a day on the water. Confirm current hours, fees, water levels, and ramp conditions before traveling.

The best lake trips often include more than time on the water: a nearby town, a seasonal event, a restaurant, a park, or a second activity after boating or beach time.
Use the lake as the anchor, then add campgrounds, parks, restaurants, marinas, and nearby outdoor stops to shape a trip that feels distinctly Georgia.
Plan a day of fishing with information on fish species, access points, and places to cast from shore or launch a boat.
Choose a campground, RV site, cabin, hotel, or nearby town that gives everyone more time together.
Look for parks, restaurants, events, trails, and small-town stops that turn the lake visit into a more memorable Georgia getaway.
Find campgrounds, explore the map, and use the lake as the beginning of your next Georgia outdoor memory.
