G Reef

“G” Reef: This is the largest of Georgia’s artificial reefs. It is 26 miles east of Little Cumberland Island and consists of 3,000 old tires located 100-250 yards to the north, northeast, south and west of the marker buoy. There are also several shipwrecks on the site: a 441-ft Liberty Ship, the Nettleton; a 33-ft utility boat; the 100-ft tugboat, Tampa; and another tugboat, the 108-ft Recife. The wrecks Nettleton and Recife are some distance from the buoy in deeper water but are often identifiable by the schools of baitfish that surround them.
