Bobcats May Only Be Hunted With a Small-Game Weapon
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) would like to remind hunters that at no time is it legal to shoot a bobcat or fox with a high-powered rifle.
According to the state regulations, a small-game or furbearer firearm is limited to any .22 caliber or smaller rimfire, air rifle, any muzzleloading firearm (scopes legal), or shotguns having a shell no longer than 3 1/2 inches with No. 2 or smaller shot. Archery equipment is also legal.
Fox and bobcats are classified as furbearers and hunting is regulated by a season and firearms restrictions. Open season for fox and bobcats runs from December 1 through February 29.
