The Process of Developing Statewide Hunting and Fishing Regulations

You may be wondering about new regulations for the 2008-09 hunting season. Well, those will not be available for a while, but if you have some ideas that you would like for the Board of Natural Resources to consider, now is the time to contribute to the process of developing regulations. Here is a timetable leading up to the release of the regulations for 2008-09.

January - public input is solicited through a series of meetings around the state.

February - WRD biologist and other field staff submit their recommendations for the regulations

March - proposals are submitted to the Board of Natural Resources for review and tentative approval

April - the public is given notice of the proposed regulations (30 days). The Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) schedules three public hearings on the proposed regulations to solicit public comment

May - the Board of Natural Resources takes formal action on the proposal package

June - the Hunting Seasons and Regulations booklet is released to publication.

August - the publilcation is available at license agents, DNR offices, and online at this website.
